Taichung MRT – In order to keep pace with Taichung City’s rapid growth, the central government’s Ministry of Transporation and Communications has prioritized plans to develop a Taichung mass rapid transit (MRT) system, known as the Taichung Metro. Current plans for the eventual construction of at least three lines, as noted below, with ground being broken in October, 2009 on the Green Line, scheduled for completion by 2015.

Taichung’s MRT plan, one of the most ambitious in Taiwan, consists of three main lines:

-Green Line (Wuri-Beitun): Already under construction by the Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems, this 16.7-kilometer line has 18 stations and starts from SongZhu Road in Taichung’s northeastern Beitun District, following WenXin and WenXin South roads for most of its length to end along the city’s southwestern edge, at Taichung’s High-Speed Railroad Station in Wuri, on the border with Changhua county.

-Blue Line (Tunghai University-Dongping): Projected to be Taichung Metro’s second completed route, this 15-kilometer line will run diagonally across the city. The line will start in Taiping city, continues to the Taichung Rail Station, and head northeast in a straight line, following ZhongZheng and TaichungGang (Taichung Port) roads before ending at Tunghai University.

-Red Line (Fongyuan-Wuri): This 21.2-kilometer line will start in northern Taichung city’s Tantzu Export Processing Zone and follow Beitun and ShuangShih roads south across the city to Wufeng district.

At least four other lines (brown, purple, orange and yellow) have also been planned or proposed for future expansion of the Taichung Metro.

Taichung MRT entire route will be an elevated construction totaling 16.71 km in length with 18 stations (shown in the planned route diagram) and is scheduled to be completed in October 2015

Two Taiwanese girls, Jinyu 25, in Taipei, and Karren, 28, in Taichung, have come up with the most unusual form of art — lying face down on the streets while having their photographs taken.

This pair of Taiwanese women who call themselves the “Pujie Girls” seem to be “planking” All-Stars on the Internet. Their name translates to “falling on the street” in Mandarin, the name is also a pun on the Cantonese curse “Puk Gai” which means “may you drop dead”.

This strange art is also called ‘planking’, ‘facedowns’ or ‘the ‘lying down game’.

Karren, 28, who is a full-time photographer, and Jinyu, 25, a university student studying English, have also recently appeared on various television talk shows to demonstrate how planking is done accurately and safely.

By posting their planking photographs taken at various tourist spots in Taipei, the two women are aiming to promote Taiwan’s tourism not just to China, but to the world!

A Taiwanese teenager was forced to “service” 20 customers in six hours by a vice syndicate, television and cable broadcaster TVBS reported.

But the 17-year-old girl was only paid a total of NT$5,000 (S$216) for the services.

After a while, she could no longer stand the “abuse” and reported to the police.

The taiwan girl teenager told police that she fell into the syndicate’s trap in April and was forced to work from 11pm to 5am daily.

On her first day of work, she was forced to have sex in taiwan with 20 customers.

After two months of investigations, police finally busted the syndicate with the arrest of eight people.

The syndicate’s modus operandi was to put up hiring advertisement for guest relations officers.

However, when the women went for an interview, they forced the taiwan girl into their cars and drove them to a hostel.

The syndicate confined the women in a room, fed them with drugs in order to control them.

Then, they would forced the taiwan women into prostitution.

Google street maps captured a nude Taiwanese girl in Hualien city, Taiwan as she lounged just inside a second story apartment window. The risque nude shot was spotted last night by a Google maps user and subsequently spread around the Internet, leading Google to quickly obscure the image this morning. So don’t bother trying to find the address.

According to the article, a reporter was sent to the home in question but was unable to get a response from the resident. Understandably so.

This is not the first time Google Street View has captured odd situations or potentially privacy-infringing moments. Mashable’s Top 15 Google Street View sightings highlights some of the Google Maps Street View lowlights since the Google Street View car has begun roaming the world snapping 360 degree shots of neighborhoods. Some winners have been full facial shots of men leaving strip clubs and adult stores, and photos of signs saying things like “the Internet sucks.”

As Google continues to document the globe for their maps feature and expand out into Asia (well, maybe not China,) the nude Taiwanese girl spotted in Hualien isn’t likely to be the last such instance of a wild Google Street View sighting in the region.

A Taiwan man was turned over for prosecution Saturday after hiring two men to chop off his hand in order to claim insurance worth 24 million Taiwan dollars ($730,000).

Chiang Chi-wei, 38, told police Nov 8 that he had been attacked by two taiwan men who chopped off his left hand in Chunghe, a satellite city of Taipei.

Police became suspicious because the wound on Chiang’s arm was smooth and blood stains were concentrated in one area on the ground.

Investigation showed that Chiang was in debt and had bought insurance policies worth 24 million Taiwan dollars from a dozen companies.

Last week, police arrested two men who claimed that Chiang had hired them to knock him unconscious and chop off his left hand. A farmer found Chiang’s severed hand Friday and handed it to police.

Chiang turned himself in to police Friday and was turned over for prosecution Saturday.

Sex workers in Taiwan have cautiously welcomed a government plan to legalise prostitution, but the scheme is being opposed by an alliance of women’s groups who fear it will breed crime and violence.

A red-light area similar to Amsterdam’s famed canalside sex-for-sale district has been proposed for the capital Taipei, with legal and zoning measures due in place within six months.

Prostitutes and their supporters say they see a ray of hope after many years of campaigning for legalisation to protect them from both customers and police, but some are concerned about being moved into special zones.

“I hope the government will allow us to stay where we are and give us legal protection,” said one prostitute who wanted to be identified as Hsiao-feng. “I don’t want to move to a new place to start again.”

Hsiao-feng earns a living in Taipei’s Wanhua district, which is believed to be home to thousands of sex workers plying their trade illegally even though prostitution was outlawed in the city in 1997.

“Who wants to have red-light districts near homes?” she asks. “The government would have to put us in the mountains but then we can’t make a living because nobody wants to travel that far.”

Observers say paid-for sex remains big business and the ban has driven it underground, where brothels operate under euphemistic names such as tea houses, massage parlours, clubs and even skin-care salons.

There are also women known as “liu ying” or “floating orioles” — a metaphor for flirtatious and seductive women — who find patrons on the streets.

There is no official record on the scale of Taiwan’s sex industry but the advocacy group Collective of Sex Workers and Supporters (COSWAS) estimates that it involves 400,000 people and is worth 60 billion Taiwan dollars (1.8 billion US) a year.

“Right now we are helpless when customers don’t pay, or even rob or hurt us,” Hsiao-feng told AFP.

“We have to watch out for the police and their informants because we can end up in prison if caught.”

Prostitutes face three days in detention or a fine of up to 30,000 Taiwan dollars if arrested, while their clients go unpunished.

“The government should protect sex workers’ human rights and stop treating them like criminals,” says COSWAS chief Chung Chun-chu. “It should allow a blanket decriminalisation to regulate the sex trade.”

The public is divided on the issue, with 42.3 percent supporting the plan to legalise prostitution while 38.8 percent oppose it and the rest are undecided, according to a poll by the local China Times.

Arielle Su, an elementary school teacher in Taipei, says legalising the sex trade cuts both ways.

“I think it can help prevent sex crimes as some people have needs and they would prey on the general public if they are unsatisfied,” she said. “But as a mother and a teacher I am also concerned that it would corrupt morals.”

A dozen local women’s groups have formed an alliance against legalising prostitution, warning that it would encourage crime and injustice against women.

“We oppose making prostitution a legal industry because it fosters sexual violence and exploitation of women,” said Chi Hui-jung, head of The Garden of Hope Foundation.

Chi pointed out that the Dutch authorities were reducing the size of Amsterdam’s red-light district due to concern over criminal activities such as human smuggling and money laundering.

“The government should offer welfare programmes and job incentives to women so they won’t go into prostitution out of economic desperation,” Chi said.

Hsiao-feng, a 45-year-old divorcee, says it is difficult for street walkers like her, with little education or job skills, to find regular work.

“I don’t like what I do for a living but I have to raise my children and pay the bills. I don’t regret becoming a Taiwan sex worker. I just hope the government will protect my safety so I am not always at the mercy of others,” she said.
